Are You a Poor Blogger? Here’s How Your Blog Can Make You Richer !

Free Money From Blogs TrapGuest Post - Our host is Efoghor Joseph Ezie, In this post he looks at how many Bloggers are struggling to monetize their blogs and provides some tips to help.See How To Become a guest author on Spice Up Your Blog.

You can be considered a poor blogger if you’ve been in blogging business for over six months and you cannot make at least a hundred dollars per month. If you have been investing your time, money and intellect into your business and your AdSense account is still in the reds, then you don’t have a success story.

How about having been on the Net for over two years and your Google AdSense account is no where near $50? Your guest is as good as mine. Blogging is supposed to be a full time business to a lot of people who are doing it; and when for months and years no tangible income comes into your pocket you are a poor blogger.

I know some would like to criticize me by saying that blogging success is not only measured by the amount of money one gets. They may want to excuse themselves by saying that success could be measured in terms of the number of people who have benefited directly or indirectly from your content.

But providing quality content and making others happy but you end up a debtor, with no money to renew your Internet subscription, pay your domain and hosting renewals and even feed yourself still does not translate to a success story.

If you are still in the categories mentioned above, here are a few things you could do to change you story:

Fix The Blogger Comment Form Message Below Threaded Comments Error On Blogger

Blogger Comment Bubble Logo iconThere have been a number of knock on effects to the recent addition of Threaded comment replies on Blogger.Basically some of the features that were available to the now old comment from no longer work or don't work in the same way.One of the things that changed since the addition of threaded comment reply option on Blogger is the 'Comment Form Message'.The comment form message for those not familiar with it is a message you can add above the comment from. Many bloggers used this to display some comment rules or a thanks for commenting message.

OK so what has happened - The comment form message is displayed above the comment form, however since the change to threaded comments once a comment is added the message moves to below the form. This in many ways defeats the purpose, people will be less likely to see the message below the comment form.Personally I add a message to subscribe to comments and this is Important as commenter's will be notified by Email when someone replies.

So whats the fix - There does not seem to be a direct fix for it but the guys at DuyPham have come up with a work around which I will show you below.

Content And Blog Marketing In The Post-Penguin Era

Google Pengiun LogoGuest Post - Our host is Jenny Rasmussen, who looks at Blogging and SEO in the wake of the Google Penguin algorithm change.See How To Become a guest author on Spice Up Your Blog.

With the “Penguin” update that launched on April 22, Google changed the search engine optimization (or “SEO”) game more significantly than ever before. Originally announced as a means to penalize webmasters who had over-optimized their webpages and link building efforts, the Penguin filter is now here to stay and ignoring its effects could cause your blog and website to plummet in Google’s search results.

So – what is the answer? How can a blogger continue to rank highly on Google and Bing without resorting to the SEO tactics of yesteryear? Let’s take a look at content – in the form of images, videos or written pieces – and how it can greatly improve your inbound traffic and where you show up in the search results.

Using Twitter To Find Guest Post Opportunities

Twitter 3D Logo IconGuest Post - Today's host is Caeden M MacGregor, who looks at Three ways Twitter can help you find high ranking, relevant sites for gust posts.See How To Become a guest author on Spice Up Your Blog.

Since its launch in 2006, Twitter has been the way to communicate what you’re doing, what you’re thinking, and what you’re eating to the world. It’s true; with more than 100 million people logging on every month to tweet their pet pictures, share upcoming local events, and the latest and greatest events in their day, Twitter users share every thought and whim in real-time with their followers.

However, for SEOs and link builders specifically (we use Twitter to identify link building opportunities at the SEO company I work for all the time) Twitter offers more than a simple opportunity to share what pub you’re at or what movie you just caught. Twitter offers much in the way of link building targeting—meaning high ranking, highly followed sites that you can approach for guest post opportunities in exchange for a back link.

As far as making your online presence known to high ranking, relevant sites, Twitter is the place to be…or rather Tweet. This social media platform offers the perfect foundation for you to follow, retweet, and connect with the sites and readers you are targeting just by re-tweeting and replying to their tweets to making your presence obvious. This way, when you approach them with a guest post, they will be more likely to respond and accept it.

Here are three ways you can use Twitter to find guest post opportunities…

Organic Link Building vs. Paid Link Building

SEO Link Building ExplainedGuest Post - Today's host is Kate Croston, who explains and compares link building techniques.See How To Become a guest author on Spice Up Your Blog.

Link building is a pretty well-known tactic around the world of blogs and websites for being a good way to help escalate your search engine rankings and direct traffic to your blog or website. However the term “link building” is also a little vague, and there is a vast difference between two of the more common link building techniques: organic link building and paid link building. If you’re wondering what the difference between the two is then read on:

Organic Link Building

What It Is:

In layman’s terms, organic link building is the act of getting your links placed on other people’s sites because you have provided good, quality content and people want to share your content and website with others.

How It Happens

You can get links placed organically through different tactics such as:

1. Writing high quality posts on your own blog or website that resonates with readers, causing them to share them on their own sites or through social media.

2. Social media is a great tool for sharing your links, and sharing them quickly. It’s easy for others to read your post on a social media site and then share it with their followers, making your link spread like wildfire throughout the social media world.

3. By providing well-written guest posts for other people’s blogs and websites that have a higher Page Rank than you do. When you provide an exceptional post for them they in turn include a link to your blog at the end of the post, which will likely cause their audience to visit your site.

4. Through leaving comments on other people’s blog. This will usually result in other commenter’s visiting your site, finding the content you have to offer, and then sharing it based on its validity and value.

The Results

Organic link building is the best way to build links throughout the web because it’s based on providing something valuable to the consumer. The major search engines look favorably on links obtained organically, and this will help increase your page rank, search engine visibility, and your reputation in your specific niche.

Paid Link Building

What It Is

Paid link building, on the other hand, is exactly what it sounds like. You pay someone else to place a link on their site. The link placement is based on the payout and not necessarily the actual quality of the content of what you’ve written.

How It Happens

It’s a fairly straightforward process; you find someone that is willing to accept money for link placement, something that is usually done on a recurring monthly basis, and then you pay them for placing your link. There’s a lot of controversy surrounding paid link building, however, and it’s a practice that’s frowned upon by the major search engines.

The Results

You will get some of the same benefits from paid link building as you do organic link building such as increased visibility and higher page rank, making it advantageous at first. But it’s important to note that you can also end up getting punished by the search engines if you’re caught engaging in paid link building because it’s seen as an unfair advantage. You didn’t achieve that link through providing useful content, but instead because you paid someone, and that can be seen in an unfavorable light because it’s unfair to the people who actually worked hard and provided well-written, quality content to achieve a link.

So do you choose one or the other?

If you’re looking for a way to build links then the safer, albeit slower, way to go is by honestly obtaining links through organic link building. Paid link building may give you an initial boost in traffic and page rank, but the consequences could result in an ultimately lower page rank, something that could be detrimental to your website. Organic link building, on the other hand, may take longer to establish but will end up holding its value over time.

How Google Penguin Update Will Affect Your Blog ?

Guest Post - Today's host is Roger Collings, who looks at the recent Google algorithm change.See How To Become a guest author on Spice Up Your Blog.

In April, Google launched the Penguin algorithm aimed to detecting and filtering out websites and blogs classified as ‘spam’ from its search results. A month later, Google released an update to the Penguin algorithm to identify and blacklist websites which violate its quality guidelines.

While implementing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a standard practice for websites and blogs, the Penguin update is aimed at scrutinizing over optimization and spamming. As a blog owner, if you’ve adopted over-optimization techniques, there’s a good chance that the Penguin update has already hit your blog.

Let’s try and understand what is the Google Penguin update and how does it affect you and your blog?

Kill your competition with negative SEO, Destroy Your Competitor, adverts selling negative SEO seems to have sprung up all over the web. So far the webmasters largely believed that while spammy backlinks wouldn’t pass on any benefit to a website, they couldn’t hurt the site either. Google Penguin, however, has changed things and it’s time to look out or talk with your SEO company about this.

But recently on the Webmaster forum itself, Google acknowledges that a third party could affect your site’s ranking.

Should You Use A Pseudonym For Your Blog ?

Blog Button On KeyboardGuest Post - Today's host is Dana Vicktor, who looks at the pros and cons for using a pen name on your blog.See How To Become a guest author on Spice Up Your Blog.

Many famous authors have used pseudonyms to write books. Samuel Clemens became Mark Twain, Stephen King became Richard Bachman and so on.

Writers have chosen to publish under pen names for a variety of reasons, from protecting their brand (such as when changing genre) to fighting discrimination (such as the many women authors who published under men’s names).

Blogging has become the medium of choice for many modern-day writers, with some blogs eventually becoming books themselves. While blogging, social networking, and other online activity have encouraged many of us to share our personal information more freely, some bloggers are starting to pull back and withhold some of that information – even their own names.

The choice to blog under your own name or a pseudonym is a personal one. However, there are many reasons why using a pseudonym for your blog might be a good idea. Here are a few:

Add Cool Unique Color Styles To Blogger Comments

The ability to reply to comments on Blogger was probably the most sought after feature from Blogger users from many years. This year when the Blogger team delivered with the new Threaded comments with replies the response was obviously very positive. However the new comment format has brought with it some problems as some previous changes you may have made to your comment section may have been lost and moreover future changes would need to be coded differently. So for those of you that may have lost some of the styles you added or if you just want to add some style to lets face it what is a fairly basic looking comment section in this post i have 3 different color coded styles you can easily add to your blogger comments. Also check out the Speech Bubble Style Threaded Comments For Blogger we published in April.

The three styles add color to the comment number, comment author name, add a comment text and best of all the author comments have a ribbon attached. So when you comment on your own blog a ribbon will be placed in the corner with the text "Author" so reader can easily see your comments. The three styles we have will add all these features including the author ribbon in either Blue, Pink or Green.

These styles have been influenced from the code on Duypham, check out the demo below (Scroll to comments) with the blue style added.

I have a tutorial on how to add the code to your blog and of course the code for all three styles.

iOS Blogging Apps That Will Make Your Blog Popular !

Guest Post - Today's host is John Page, who talks about the best choices for IOS Blogging Apps.See How To Become a guest author on Spice Up Your Blog.

Do you remember those good old days when blogging was just for fun? I can hardly find a decent blog nowadays because even the best of them turn to be the part of the “industry” where practically every blogger is obsessed with earning more money from his blog instead of publishing some interesting blogs just to stimulate people for talking. Making money by means of blogging is not bad for sure. I just appeal to all bloggers to make update their blogs not just for the higher search engine ranks but for posting really interesting ideas that may be helpful for their readers. For instance, in this particular post I’m going to share my own top 4 of nifty blogging iOS applications that were designed by bloggers for bloggers, so to speak. In the picture you see my favorite WordPress for iOS application.

Personally before I bought my first iPhone I was quite irritated by the fact that I cannot update my blog with few new pics or notes whenever I want even if there is no a laptop or PC at fingertips. Luckily, with the development of iOS apps such problem is easily solved since there are so many good blogging programs are offered via the iTunes service. It is quite a challenge to find the best blogging iOS apps because there are few very good and plenty of decent. Plus all blogging can be divided into subcategories – for analytics, SEO, microblogging, social networking sharing or editing content. That is why I decided to create my own list of the best blogging applications that can be used by every blogger despite his preferences and purposes.

Numbered comments on threaded comments for Blogger/Blogspot

In a previous tutorial you've seen how you can add numbered comments to your blogger blog, unfortunately, this trick worked only for those who don't have the reply option and are still using the old blogger commenting system. But we won't have any problem this time because this tutorial will show you how to add numbered comments with comment bubbles on the threaded comments, as well ;)

What the following CSS trick will do for you:
  1. When the general block of comments is initiating (.comments-content) a counter called countcomments activates and starts with an initial value of 1.
  2. Then, each time the code flow goes through a review of any level, either the original comment or a reply (.comment-thread li), it will bring us in front (:before) of the comment's body the number that is the counter.
  3. Finally, this is incremented in the counter (counter-increment).
See the screenshot:
count comments, comment bubble, forum, blogger

Isn't that great? I'm pretty sure many of you have been waiting for this cool trick. So, let's begin applying it for our threaded commenting system.

Steps to add bubble comments count

    • if you want to have no bubble icon, remove the code in red (including the address in blue)
    • to change the comment bubble, replace the code in blue with the URL address of your own icon. If you're not sure what icon you should use, you can find some cool icons in my previous posts (see these tutorials here and here)
    • to change the position of comments count, increase/decrease the values (3 & 10) from padding-top and padding-left
    • to change the position of comments bubble/icon, change the values (10 & 7) from margin-left and margin-top
Step 4: Now Save the Template and you're done!

email subscription form, blogger blogspot, gadgets
When you are providing useful information in your blog, then many times some readers will need to get the latest updates from your blog. For that purpose, you need an Email Subscription Form in your blog, so that the interested visitors can easily get the latest updates.

To add email or Feed Subscription Form to your blogger blog (blogspot) is very easy.
    Just follow the next steps:

    1. Log in to Blogger, then go to Layout > click on "Add a Gadget" link:

     2. From the pop-up window, scroll down and click on the "HTML/JavaScript" gadget:

     3. Paste the following code inside the empty box:

    Settings
    - Replace the url address in green to change the email icon
    - To change the width or the text area, increase/decrease the 130px value in red
    - replace http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/mailverify?uri=helplogger with your Feedburner Email Feed link. You can get it by visiting your feedburner account then navigate to "Publicize" and then to "Email Subscriptions".
    - Replace helplogger with your feed title. It appears at the end of your feed link. In my case it is http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/mailverify?uri=helplogger

    4. Now Save your widget and check your blog. Enjoy!
